Scratches in the Dream and Scratches in the Morning
A Troubling Dream From a Reader:
I sit up out of the bed with a strange feeling. I look at the clock and its 3:10 still early in the morning. My throat is dry so i get some ice like i always do and try to turn on the kitchen light, but it doesn’t turn on. My mind makes me turn to the door as i feel something there. I see a shadow with a short height as i peer at the dark blue curtains. I walked over to the curtains and opened them up to see my son of 6 years standing outside with a blank expression on his face. I opened the door in a rush and asked him why he was outside at 3 in the morning. He didn’t answer me. When I went to reach for him something gave me a small cut on my hand. I thought nothing of it as I brought him inside. I took off his brown coat and something swiped across my hand again. when I looked at his hand he held up a gold screw about the size of my pinky and I could see the extra sharp point on it. I watched him take his hand across his chest and felt the point swipe across me again. I jumped up out of my bed to notice everything was like my dream. My house was dark, it was 3:10, the only difference was that my light turned on in the kitchen, and my son was peacefully sleeping on the couch. My body was cold and tingling and on my hand were 3 small cuts. They weren’t random as they are above each other…my hand was really scratched..maybe you could help me and tell me what this means or what’s happening to me. I remember dreams often some more than others and I have some dreams repeatedly altho this is the first time I ever had this….thank you.
It’s really a wonder that this sort of thing doesn’t happen more often. While we’re asleep, sometimes we’ll scratch ourselves, get our limbs twisted around, or just find ourselves in some sort of uncomfortable position – then, our mind will work this into our dream. Some people dream that their finger is bitten by an animal only to wake up with their finger in their own mouth!
More likely than not, you somehow managed to scratch yourself while sleeping (it’d be much easier to explain if you had a pet!) – then your mind sort of inserted the experience into your dream.
Many times when we dream of a loved one in this sort of dream, it’s an indication that we were thinking about them right before we drifted off to sleep. I guess that’s why parents so frequently dream of their children. The dream also seems to indicate that you’ve been somewhat worried about “getting through” to someone recently. This person could or could not be your son.
It appears that you know what is best for someone else but are having a little trouble helping them to see. It could be something like trying to convince a friend that she’s wrong about a certain guy or it could be a case of trying to get your son to pick up his toys – it honestly could be just about anything. However, the intensity of the dream suggests that it’s something you feel very strongly about and that has been worrying you more than you really realize.
As for the clock reading the same time, that can be chalked up to crazy luck. The fact that you were cold and tingly can be attributed to the fact that you are a mother who was dreaming about her young child. Lots of emotions are involved there, and your body registered each one. Also, the fact that this dream seems very much like a lucid dream would explain its extreme effects on you.
Thanks for sharing your dream and I hope your scratches heal soon.
What Does it Mean to Dream of Death?
A lot of people have the mistaken idea that dreaming of death foretells of a loved one dying.
First of all, dreams are a many things, but psychic they are not. Our dreams reflect what is going on inside our minds and hearts. They deal with (and sort out) things that we are currently experiencing or things that we have currently experienced.
Now having said that, we can take the information and symbolism found in our dreams to help us in the future. So, in that regard, they can provide warnings and admonitions. However, please don’t ever think they foretell bad omens or that dreaming of darkness is a prediction for upcoming darkness.
If you have had a dream which involved death, rest assured that you are far from alone. We’ve all had death dreams and, while troubling, we all know that they slink out of our lives just as fast as they slunk in.
Death dreams generally mean that you are anxious or worried. You may not fully realize how much anxiety you’re actually feeling. Many times, troubling dreams like this wave a flag for the individual and cause them to realize just how much stress they’ve been under. The dreamer can then realize that they need to pull back a little bit – enjoy life more rather than just anxiously trying to get from point A to point B!
Almost all dreams of dying can be traced back to an overworked, overly anxious individual very much in need of some time off!
How Well Do You Remember Your Dreams?
If you’re serious about dream prophesy, dream analysis, dream interpretation, and really getting to the heart of what your dreams mean, you’ll need your dream recall to be on the absolute TOP of its game!
- How well do you remember your dreams?
- Do you remember your emotions and feelings during your dreams?
- Do you recognize most of the people in your dreams?
- In the morning, can you recall at least one of your dreams?
- Do you recall the various “symbols” in your dreams?
If you feel that your dream recall needs a little work, I have the perfect solution: A Dream Journal. While you don’t absolutely have to run out and buy a new notebook or journal to serve as your Dream Journal – it would be a cool idea. You could use any notebook you have around the house, of course, but the more “special” you make the entire experience, the better.
Even if you simply go to one of those amazing stores where everything is $1 and buy a notebook in your favorite color – you’re making a point of taking the entire enterprise seriously, and that’s what’s important. My first Dream Journal was actually a wire notebook with colorful Lisa Frank dolphins on the front. Seemed appropriate enough!
Here’s another idea that adds to the adventure. Find a pocket folder (for mere pennies) to keep with your dream journal. I’ll tell you what it’s for in just a minute!
Get Started With Your Dream Journal
Once you have your dream journal, go ahead and enter a recent dream. Include the people who were in the dream, what you were doing in the dream (what you hoped to accomplish or were trying to avoid), the symbols (knives, snakes, balloons, candles, fire, clouds – anything that stands out) in the dream, and most importantly – HOW YOU FELT DURING THE DREAM. Also, list any and all colors that you remember. List only the top 3 colors you remember – 4 at the most. Oddly enough, this is very important!
A typical journal entry might look something like this:
I was driving an old beaten up red pick up truck. My beloved basset hound, Honey, was in the passenger’s seat. We were in a huge hurry to get somewhere and Honey could talk. In fact, she talked practially the whole time. Her collar, instead of being her normal hot pink one was white. I couldn’t make sense of that in my dream – though her talking didn’t shock me. I was confused as to why the collar changed colors.
We were in a huge hurry and I was driving really fast. We were on dirt roads and passed by a lot of farm houses and brown horses. At some point, my cat Lanie joined us and could also talk. He wasn’t in a hurry and wanted us to slow down and get something to eat. Then I woke up. Hungry.
Main Colors: Red, white, brown
Emotions: Rushed, confused, anxious, hungry!
The above dream is actually one of the first ones I ever recorded in a dream journal. This is actually the VERY dream that began my study of and fascination with dreams. When I was thinking about this dream the next day at school (instead of listening to my Algebra teacher!), I realized that, underneath it all, I was feeling many of the same feelings in my real life as I did in my dream. By the time the class was over, a lifelong fascination with dreams and heartfelt belief in the importance of their interpretations had taken hold.
Be sure that you enter your “feelings” as accurately as possible. Here are a few suggestions: joyful, sad, anxious, worried, depressed, helpless, surprised, ashamed, agitated, frustrated, curious, confused, powerful, unloved, ignored, furious, hopeful, optimistic, sexy, ugly, brave, etc. Even if the emotions seem to have NOTHING to do with one another, write them down.
Remember the Folder?!
This exercise adds even more fun to your dream recall and analysis. Cut out or draw/color pictures that symbolize your dream. If you have room in your dream journal to tape (or draw) them onto the pages, do so. If not, clip the images together with a paper clip, then add a little piece of paper with the date of the dream.
Having visuals of the colors and symbols can really help put you in touch with your inner feelings and emotions.
I have many more articles and exercises planned to add to the site that deal with Dream Journals and Dream Recall – with plenty more about images and, even, collages. So, please grab an rss feed and/or sign up for e-mail updates, so you’ll know what’s been added as soon as it’s here for you. I just wish I could open up my notebooks (and brain!) and pour everything out at once. Kind of impossible, though, so I’ll just take it steady.
I’m actually working on a downloadable Dream Journal template for the site, color charts, and a visual guide to dream symbols. So much to do!
Have a glorious weekend – if you need me, I’ll be right here, typing, thinking, and tweaking away with coffee and chocolate fueling me along.
Dream Interpretation – Why It’s Such a Big Deal
What Your Dreams Mean and Why it Matters So Much
Do you remember the last dream you had? Were you being chased, looking for something you’d lost, or frustrated with a door that wouldn’t open?
Was a lost loved one in your dream and did they seem as alive as you are today?!
Maybe there were snakes in your dream and you still can’t shake the eerie feelings they left you with.
Each of the types of dreams I listed above (in addition to the countless other dreams we have each night) are more than just dreams: They’re messages.
No, I’m not going to say something like, “If you dream about snakes, you’ll meet someone next week who’ll give you a million dollars.” You may or may not have such luck! But if you DID, it certainly wouldn’t be because of the dream. Your sleeping mind doesn’t really have any more information about what will happen next week than your “awake” mind does. The ancient dream guides that suggest otherwise are delightfully fun to read, but accurate?
Thankfully, no. I’ve had a few dreams that would have surely cursed me if they were accurate.
While ancient dream guides are used for little more than amusement, Dream Analysis is a VERY worthwhile and helpful study. A modern dreamologist who is on top of his or her dream study can be incredibly helpful to you.
We all want to get the best that life has for us and we know that the only way to do that is to get the best out of ourselves. Having your dreams analyzed by a dreamologist is a simple, enjoyable, and fascinating tool to use to help make these things happen.
Remember, above, when I said, “Your sleeping mind doesn’t really have any more information about what will happen next week than your ‘awake’ mind does.”? Well, that’s completely true, HOWEVER, the sleeping, or unconscious, mind is more in tune with what’s going on in the present and the past. It’s uncluttered or distracted by its environment – so it can completely delve into its emotions, thoughts, and issues. And that’s exactly what it does – it dives right in.
“Dreams are illustrations… from the book your soul is writing about you.” – Marsha Norman
However, for the individual who isn’t familiar with dream symbols or the other particulars of dreams, the importance of the dreams will be lost forever! That’s why it’s so important to find someone who speaks the language of dreams and can help you to get to the bottom of your own dreams and their meanings.
If your subconscious mind senses trouble (or at least the potential for trouble) in a particular area of your life, it will often use dreams to communicate the potential problem.
Dreams can also alert you when your emotions are getting the best of you.
Always pay close attention to your dreams and use our dream dictionary to help you find out what your dreams mean. You may be missing something very important!

Dream Prophesy is Back and Better Than Before!
Dream Prophecy, Dream Dictionary, and Dream Interpretations
If you were a regular visitor to the previous Dream Prophesy, you already know what a passion we have for dreams, dream analysis, dream interpretations, the meanings of dreams, and dream prophecy.
We live for this!
If you’re new to Dream Prophesy, please kick back and make yourself at home. We hope you’ll browse through the dream interpretations and dream dictionary.
Dream Prophesy was a thriving, hugely popular website and blog for many years. However, when we added a forum to the site, things went downhill fast. The software we used was, apparently, easy to hack and that’s pretty much what happened. We lost our HUGE website and blog in a matter of minutes.
Years of (very) hard work – gone in the blink of an eye. Talk about leaving a bruise. Unfortunately, the bruise was so uncomfortable that we considered not trying again.
After all, where’s the fun in starting all over again from zero?!
Then we started thinking about the wonderfully colorful and fascinating people who came to the site and blog regularly. The people we talked to through e-mail and comments daily. We missed all of you and didn’t like the thought of not providing a service for you that you obviously benefited from and enjoyed.
So, the bruise has healed, we’re starting all over (like I said, from zero – we don’t have any of our old posts, articles, dream interpretations, dream analyses….anything…. saved) and, to tell you the truth, we’re as excited now as the first time around. Actually, even more so, because now we know the wonderful dreamers that are on the other side of these words.
Please spread the word to everyone you know that Dream Prophesy is back up. If you go to other blogs and/or forums, please spread the word like first graders spread colds! The more people who come and share their dreams and thoughts, the better it’ll be, the more fun we’ll all have, and the faster we’ll get this site built back up!!!
