Dreams About Exes are Always Unsettling
Dreaming About Exes Can Be Just as Scary!
Dreaming about exes (ex-boyfriend, ex-girlfriend, ex-husband, ex-wife) seems to rank amongst the most unsettling dreams – bordering on nightmares for some people! Snake dreams, dreams about dying, and dreams about loved ones who have died are still the MOST disturbing dreams, but dreams about exes aren’t far behind.
Almost daily I hear from dreamers who want to know what their dreams are trying to tell them. The dream’s meaning, as you might expect, varies from dreamer to dreamer. As with all dreams, you have to look at several things to find your own dream’s interpretation.
If you dream of an ex (or have recently had such a dream), ask yourself the following questions:
- Do I have lingering anger, resentment, or bitterness toward my ex?
- Do I still have feelings for him/her?
- Do I feel guilty for something I did or said to them or for something I put them through?
- Do I feel guilty, in a way, that I’ve moved on and found happiness when they have not?
- Irregardless of my feelings for this person, was I happier THEN than I am NOW?
- Do I simply miss being in a relationship… just not with them?
- Do I have trust issues that stem to this relationship?
- Has this ex caused me to now fear getting hurt – so much so that I am overly cautious with my relationships today?
Your dream is not so much about the ex as it is about your feelings. I’ve heard from people who have ZERO feelings for the ex, but simply wish they were in a relationship. Their ex (even though they wouldn’t want to get back with them) represents the word “relationship” to them. Their dream simply means they want to find a special someone to share their life with.
I’ve also analyzed dreams for people who are carrying baggage from the relationship. Sometimes the baggage is packed with pain that hasn’t quite healed yet. Sometimes there are trust issues or even residual anger and resentment. I once talked with a young woman who kept having dreams about a “really sweet ex boyfriend.” She had moved on and was happy with another guy – in fact, they were planning their wedding. However, she kept dreaming about her “sweet ex.”
She said she was certain she didn’t have any feelings left for him. They’d remained friendly since the break up and she was happy that he’d started dating another girl. When I picked up on the fact that she didn’t have any feelings for him, romantically, I asked her to name the 3 feelings she associated with him. I’ll never forget her reply:
- Guilt
- Guilt
- Guilt
She had cheated on him, lied to him, and hurt him pretty badly. She said her heart still broke when she remembered the look on his face when he found out. She was obviously overcome with guilt. After all, she’d hurt someone very badly and yet, here she was, happier than she’d ever been in her life.
I told her that the dreams sprang from these feelings of guilt and that the best way to deal with the feelings was to forgive herself. After all, he obviously had forgiven her if they remained friends. I also told her that when someone is overcome with feelings of guilt and sorrow for something they’ve done, a heartfelt, face to face apology can help ease the pain. She said she intended to do just that.
When you dream of an ex, think of the three feelings you associate with him or her. The interpretation for your dream is lying within the words that come to mind.
Dream Interpretaion: Dreaming of a Holiday That Isn’t Even Remotely Close!
The Dream Analysis May Not Have Anything to Do with The Holiday
Have you ever had a dream about a holiday that was many months away? You know the dream can’t really have anything to do with the holiday, itself, because you haven’t seen decorations, cards, pictures, or anything to do with this particular holiday.
In fact, you haven’t even thought about the holiday for months! So why are you dreaming about it?
The fact is, the dream interpretation (analysis) doesn’t have anything to do with the holiday – it’s more about how the holiday makes you FEEL…. the emotions you associate with the holiday.
For example, when trying to determine the analysis of a holiday dream, ask yourself the following questions:
- What are the three strongest memories you have of the holiday? Think about these memories – do they “line up” with feelings you’re currently having or could they be feelings that you’re missing in your daily life?
- Does this holiday cause an unusual amount of stress for you? For example, if a particular holiday causes stress because of family relations, money, or loneliness – these bad emotions could be something you’re dealing with in your life.
- Who do you most associate with this holiday? Whether the individuals are alive or not, the dream analysis could simply be that any one of these people (or all of them!) have been on your mind lately. Many times we associate family members we’ve lost with holidays because our most vivid memories of them involve Christmas, Thanksgiving, Easter, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, etc. For example, I will always associate Thanksgiving with my father because it was his favorite holiday. He counted the days to Thanksgiving like most people count the days to Christmas! If I were to dream about Thanksgiving, I could pretty much bet that my dad had been on my mind recently.
- Think about specific dream symbols that stand out in the dream. What things, objects, or even colors do you recall most vividly from your dream? If you dream of Christmas Cookies, for example, you are seeking “comfort,” after all, few things are as comforting or as enjoyable as Christmas cookies! You may also strongly associate the person who does most of the baking at Christmas with a Christmas cookie dream.
Most holiday dreams are centered around loved ones, memories, and comfort which makes them some of the best dreams you can have!
What Does it Mean to Dream of an Injury?
The Dream Analysis Can Help Healing Begin
If you dream of being injured, or dream that you are in some type of pain from an injury or wound, the dream analysis (interpretation) could go one of several ways. As with all dreams, the dreamer is the only one who can say for certain which dream analysis is “on the money” for them, so read through each dream interpretation below and see which one seems to apply to you, personally.
An injury dream can be a dream in which the dreamer is injured or in pain or it can be a dream in which the dreamer sees or even inflicts pain in another person. The most important thing about the dream is the fact that an injury or wound has taken place.
The first (and most frequent) analysis for an injury dream has to do with injury or pain that has been done to the dreamer. Because we think of pain in many types of context (physical, mental, emotional..), this injury, harm, or pain can be physical or emotional. The dreamer could have been physically or emotionally injured many years ago or as recent as the day of the dream. The most important symbolism is the fact that the dreamer is attempting to heal, deep inside, from this injury.
If injury dreams that fall under this interpretation continue for any period of time, it’s probably best for the dreamer to find someone to talk to about, because recurring dreams of this nature indicate that, although healing is trying to take place, it isn’t entirely doing so.
This type of injury dream is our brain’s way of trying to figure out questions such as:
- Why did that happen to me?
- Why did this person do this to me?
- How do I know this will never happen again?
- Etc.
Sometimes an individual who has been physically or emotionally injured simply needs a sympathetic shoulder to lean on and an understanding person to confide in.
Another analysis for injury dreams is at the other end of the spectrum. Sometimes people who have inflicted pain on others are haunted by guilt in their dreams. Now, this doesn’t ALWAYS mean they deserve the guilt. For example, if someone accidentally and unwittingly causes pain to another person (or even animal) – they may have injury dreams as a result of the guilt they feel. Sometimes they’ll be the one who is injured in the dream, which is their brain’s way of saying, “I wish it had been me instead” or “I deserve to feel this pain.”
Needless to say, the best remedy for this dream interpretation is to simply apologize from the heart. Don’t make excuses and don’t put if off another minute. Say you’re sorry and even buy something for the individual, if you can. You’ll both feel better and your dreams will be sweeter.
What Do Numbers in Dreams Mean?
Number Dreams Mean Different Things to Different Dreamers
Have you ever had a dream where a number, or numbers, stood out kind of like a sore thumb? Maybe there were a certain number of objects in your dream or a particular number on a house. If the numbers stand out to you, they have a significance.
Put simply, if you remember a number from your dream, it means something!
Here’s where it gets kind of tricky. For the most part, different numbers mean different things to different people.
- A number can represent an age.
- A number can represent a favorite athlete’s (uniform number).
- A number can represent the number of children you have.
- A number can represent a house.
- A number can represent a date.
- A number can represent a Bible verse.
- A number can represent the number of days in a week.
- A number can represent the number of months in a year.
There are many, many more examples, but these are a few of the most obvious ones. As you can see – just by going by these alone – the number 23 could mean different things to different people. For me, when I think of the number 23, I think of the 23rd Psalm in the Bible. The next person may think of an athlete and the one after that may think of her/his birthday.
When a number stands out to you in a dream, simply ask yourself what is significant about this number to you. More likely than not, the significance will come to you right away. The answer will be what your subconscious was focusing on. If it’s your anniversary date, for example, you’ve probably been thinking a great deal about your spouse.
If the number is your birth date (or age), you may have been feeling excited (or not so excited!) about an upcoming birthday. The dream interpretation could also be that you’ve simply been thinking a lot about age recently.
If the number represents the number of kids you have, number of pets in your family, or the combined number of people in your family – the dream analysis is a pretty sweet one. You want to protect, nurture, and care for the family you cherish.
Certain numbers have a universal symbolism. However, these numbers can also mean something more personal, like the examples above. Only the dreamer knows for sure.
The universal symbolism of certain numbers:
- 1 – the number one usually represent loneliness. However, many sports fans dream of the number in the context of being first – a “We’re number One!” type of thing.
- 2 – the number two usually represents a couple. The number 2 can represent a relationship – either romantic or non-romantic. The number 2 can also represent two different opinions or sides of an argument.
- 4 – the number 4 often represents something “complete” or “whole” – such as 4 sides of a box or the 4 seasons. Many people who dream about the number 4 are trying to come to terms with something or make sense of it.
- 5 – the number 5 often refers to something pertaining to the body (5 fingers, 5 toes, 5 senses..)
- 7 – the number 7 is a fascinating number in dreams. 7 is a “Spiritual” number, generally thought of as a number of completion. Dreaming of the number 7 could mean that you’re looking to complete something in particular. It could also have Spiritual interpretations – such as wanting to draw closer to God.
- 8 – the number 8 often stands for uncertainty and mystery. It usually means the dreamer has unanswered questions and perhaps doubts.
- 9 – the number 9 usually represents a cycle (pregnancy/childbirth). It can be symbolic of a pregnancy, babies, or simply of a particular cycle coming to a close.
- 10 – the number 10 represents perfection. Usually the dreamer is trying to perfect something in their life – or is searching for ways to improve things that he/she isn’t happy with.
- 12 – usually refers to the year or a dozen. In a dream it usually means “a long time” or anxiety the dreamer has about something that will take a great deal of time.
- 0 – zero means emptiness… a void. Dreaming of the number zero means that the dreamer feels that something is missing from his or her life.
Only the dreamer knows for sure what the numbers in his or her dream signify. One thing’s for sure, unraveling the mystery is a lot of fun!
What Do Prayer Dreams Mean?
More Times Than Not it’s All About HOPE
Prayer dreams can have several meanings. Very often, the dreamer will dream about prayer or about praying simply as a result of having prayed right before falling asleep. The beautiful process finds its way into the dream simply because it was the last thing the dreamer thought about or did.
However dreaming about prayer can also have another interpretation. Prayer dreams can indicate that the dreamer is currently “at the end of his or her rope” about a particular matter. Something in their life simply seems too large for them to handle.
Most people, when they’ve reached what appears to be the end of their rope look UP to Heaven… more specifically UP to God. Prayer dreams are the subconscious mind’s way of seeking the solution to a puzzle they can’t solve.
When this is the case, and the dreamer’s prayer indicates that – deep inside – they are hopeful of a positive solution to their problem.
If, in your dream you experience an answer to prayer – either one you prayed within the dream, or a prayer you’ve prayed while awake, it is a symbolism of hope.
By contrast, if you dream of NOT getting an answer to prayer, your hope is currently feeling a little shaky!
Another dream interpretation for prayer dreams has to do with the dreamer’s conscience. Some people will dream about prayer or praying when they feel guilty about something in particular. It’s as though they’re looking for forgiveness from God, other people, and (perhaps most importantly), themselves.
Only the dreamer will be able to tell which of these dream interpretations fits their situation.
